Skills Update - August 2015

This two-day workshop provides a brief overview of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT^®) Skills and focuses specifically on the 2015 updates from the recently published DBT^® Skills Training Manual, Second Edition from Treatment Developer, Dr. Marsha Linehan. Participants are provided with an in-depth review of the 2015 updates and learn how to implement the new DBT® skills, handouts/worksheets, and procedures. Extensive teaching and use of clinical examples are used to illustrate specific skills training procedures and troubleshooting common skills training obstacles. This course is designed for experienced DBT therapists and DBT skills trainers who want to learn and implement the 2015 DBT skills updates in their practice. This training will incorporate material from Dr. Linehan’s recently published DBT^® Skills Training Manual, Second Edition, and a degree of familiarity with this text is required for the training.  It is recommended that you bring the text with you to the training, along with a printed copy of the DBT Skills Training: Handouts and Worksheets. 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Identify the Strategies & Procedures required for effective teaching of DBT skills
2. Be able to utilize recent updates to the DBT Skills Training Manual
3. Be familiar with the updates and additions to the DBT skills module of Core Mindfulness
4. Be familiar with the updates and additions to the DBT skills module of Interpersonal Effectiveness
5. Be familiar with the updates and additions to the DBT skills module of Emotion Regulation
6. Be familiar with the updates and additions to the DBT skills module of Distress Tolerance

Training Level

• This is an intermediate level training which assumes familiarity with skills content from the 1993 skills manual. Its is best suited to participants who have prior knowledge and experience with DBT skills training.
• This training covers materials from the 2014 skills manual (second edition)

1. Registrations are confirmed only when payment is received by credit card (with Paypal), electronically or by cheque.
2. Payment must be made before the training. By registering you accept liability for the costs of the training.
3. Cancellations must be notified to us by email (or the website contact form) with full identifying information.
4. Cancellations received more than seven days before the event will receive a refund of the fees paid less an administration charge of $50 (for each event).
5. Refunds cannot be given after that date. Refunds will not be available until after the event.
6. A colleague may be substituted for no extra charge if we are notified at least two business days before the training event.
7. If registration numbers are low we may provide the event with only one trainer. Participants would be notified before the training and given the option of a full refund if they wished to withdraw from the event.
8. In the unlikely event the training is cancelled by the organisers, registration will be fully refunded but no liability will be accepted for travel, accommodation or other costs/expenses incurred to registrants.
