Doing DBT: enhancing your individual therapy practice
DBTNZ is delighted to announce a unique opportunity to attend a New Zealand DBT training run by Kelly Koerner – an internationally recognised expert DBT trainer and therapist.
Kelly is the inspiration and energy behind the PracticeGround international learning community. She is Creative Director of the Evidence-Based Practice Institute, LLC, where she combines technology, design, and social enterprise to help clinicians improve clients' outcomes. She is an expert clinician, clinical supervisor, and trainer in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy with specialized training in other evidence-based practices. As a trainer, she is known for her warmth and highly engaging, practical teaching style. She is adjunct clinical faculty at the University of Washington. Her recent book is Doing Dialectical Behavior Therapy: A Practical Guide. Kelly worked for many years with Dr Linehan as DBT was being developed and later as a researcher, Director of Training and CEO for Behavioral Tech.
This training will cover many of the core DBT philosophies/interventions applied to the most difficult situations and contexts (e.g. validation, dialectics especially the balance of change and acceptance, jazz of DBT, behaviour therapy, therapy-interfering behaviour), drawing from the best of the many 5-day advanced DBT trainings that Kelly has delivered.
Learning Objectives
- making use of DBT case formulation
- treating secondary targets
- increasing emotion focus (including informal exposure)
- Targeting in-session dysfunctional behaviour (e.g., wilfulness, dissociation, anger)
- increasing the movement, speed and flow of therapy
Training Level
- This is an intermediate to advanced level training and will assume a good working knowledge of DBT.
- We recommend that participants have attended at least a two-day DBT training (such as a DBTNZ or Behavioral Tech event) or worked in a comprehensive DBT program for at least three months.
- You will need to already know the treatment fundamentals to make the most of this training. If you have any doubts about your DBT skill level then get in touch.
