Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Applications for Complex Restrictive Eating Disorders
Tuesday 18th & Wednesday 19th October 2022
Online registrations closed on 14 October 2022 for this training.
A two day web-based training
Demand for eating disorder treatment is at an all-time high worldwide, and access to ED treatments is becoming more challenging. DBT therapists find it difficult to access shared care arrangements with ED treatment programmes. ED specialist services are less likely to provide treatment for multi-problem ED presentations, especially those with significant psychiatric risk and behaviours that make standard ED treatments challenging or less effective.
DBT has an established evidence base for treating Binge Eating Disorder and Bulimia Nervosa. There is now strong interest in DBT for treating restrictive eating disorders. Emerging evidence over the past decade has shown DBT to be a promising treatment for those with ED presentations who also exhibit significant difficulties with emotion regulation, behaviours that make treatment challenging, and high-risk behaviours.
This two-day training is for experienced DBT practitioners wanting to learn more about applying DBT to treat restrictive eating disorders. It assumes a good understanding and prior experience in providing standard DBT and introductory knowledge of treating eating disorders.
The training will include demonstrations, small group exercises, case studies and live case consultations.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about current models of DBT as applied to complex EDs
- Learn to formulate ED problems within the DBT frame
- Learn how to use DBT skills and strategies for addressing disordered eating behaviours
- Learn specifics of applying DBT to ED presentations through the integration of standard ED treatments
- Learn how to assess and respond to the risks associated with restrictive EDs and how to target ED problems within DBT
- Identify learning and development goals for enhancing efficacy for treating restrictive eating in the context of DBT
Note: if this training is sold out then you will be able to join a waitlist. If we repeat this training then those on the waiting list will be the first to be offered a place for the new training.
